Virat Kohli Creates Historic ODI Record.

Virat Kohli made his return to international cricket in style, delivering a remarkable performance against New Zealand in the rain-affected first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland. While his impressive 74-run knock helped India secure a five-wicket victory, it was another milestone that made the innings truly historic.

The former Indian captain scored 74 runs from just 51 deliveries, smashing 13 boundaries and one six. More importantly, Kohli registered his 50th score of 50 or more in away One Day Internationals (ODIs), becoming the first cricketer in the history of the format to reach this milestone.

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara occupies the second position on the list with 45 such scores, while Australian legend Ricky Ponting follows with 42.

Kohli Makes a Strong Comeback Against New Zealand

Playing his first international match in more than a month, Kohli looked completely comfortable at the crease. Coming in at number three after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the opening over, the star batter quickly settled into his innings.

He reached his half-century in just 35 balls, demonstrating his trademark combination of controlled aggression and excellent shot selection.

His 74-run contribution was also his 80th half-century in ODI cricket. Furthermore, it marked his sixth score of 50 or more in 10 ODI appearances this year, underlining his remarkable consistency.

With his 38th birthday approaching, Kohli once again demonstrated that his hunger for runs and ability to deliver in crucial situations remain undiminished.

113-Run Partnership With Shubman Gill Guides India to Victory

India's successful chase was built around an important partnership between Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.

The duo added 113 runs together, keeping India's run chase on track despite multiple interruptions caused by rain.

Chasing New Zealand's total of 185, India needed to adjust their approach several times as the weather continued to disrupt proceedings.

Gill contributed a valuable 37 runs, while Kohli controlled the innings with his attacking 74.

Kohli eventually departed when India's score reached 124, leaving the remaining job to KL Rahul and Naman Dhir. The two batters ensured that India crossed the finish line comfortably, completing a five-wicket victory with 56 balls remaining.

Rain Interruptions Change India's Run Chase

The opening ODI witnessed several weather interruptions in Auckland.

The first spell of rain delayed the toss by approximately 20 minutes. Later, another shower interrupted India's innings when the visitors were 56/1 in the 11th over.

Following the resumption of play, India's target was revised to 167 runs from 40 overs.

However, the rain returned after India had reached 64/1, resulting in another delay of around 30 minutes. The revised target was subsequently reduced to 143 runs from 32 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

India successfully chased down the revised target in just 22.4 overs, securing an important victory in the opening match of the five-match ODI series.

Virat Kohli's Record Adds Another Chapter to His ODI Legacy

Although Kohli's 74-run innings played a crucial role in India's victory, his latest achievement is arguably the biggest highlight of the match.

Becoming the first batter to record 50 scores of 50 or more in away ODIs is another significant addition to an already extraordinary international career.

With consistent performances across different conditions and against top international teams, Kohli continues to strengthen his position among the greatest batters in ODI history.

His latest milestone against New Zealand once again demonstrates why his performances remain a major talking point in world cricket.
